Five years ago I did a print ad in school for Post-it notes. This was the comp:Abandoned Paintings by Bence Hajdu
Coming out of a desire to see the architecture and setting for some of history’s most famous paintings, Bence’s series of abandoned masterpieces has a curious side effect of removing any conflict from the original piece, leaving behind a serene backdrop and an underlying sense that something significant took place here though you’re too far removed to feel it now, like visiting a modern historical landmark. More disturbingly, it’s as if the scenes have been whitewashed, the events of the painting rewritten by history’s winners.
